The Courses Offered in Fall 2006 and its impact on my life

The time was moving very fast and I got registered for three courses ENTS 689O, ENTS 635 and ENTS 689A. O was Macroeconomics which was all about the gloabl economic environment,635 was a core class based on spreadsheet modelling and decison making and A was a PCS class all about telecommunications.

Classes started and i attended the first class of O,where i felt so sleepy that professor had to ask me to give my introduction seeing me sleeping. :) i thought its something i am not made to do....Economics was a big no...but in other words I had no option,as some people termed L to be very tough i thought lets stick with it and see how it goes. I attended couple of other classes and i felt its something i have been missing all my life and something i am so addicted to..though exams were not the same, the discussions were very good and interesting tooo,i would suggest everyone in love with Economy and how the GDP and IS/LM curves work shoudl take this course in order to be in pace with the managers for tommorow. Though its not the real MBA but the courses when tought by the regular faculty members from the RH Smith Business School makes it all the same and you tend to enjoy their teachings and find love somewhere.

Now the real blocker came in between and that was 635 class which was so much spreadsheet modelling and about making decisions that i though i will become a president one day taking decisions for the whole country:)D But the class was big around 50 people in the class with professor so fast that it was impossible to understand if you bunk even one class. But the group works and the teachings supposed to be very helpful and i developed my liking into it very much.

After that came Dr Dellomo...the ENTS advisor and our course professor for 689A. The course was all about the RF technology used in telecom and was supposed to give the basic and advanced understanding of how a cell tower basically works, what handoff is and what all we can do to design it in an optimum way. The course was something i had a liking before i started it but during the course of its going i realized this was something I dont have to do for the rest of my life...

Life and what we are here for ,this is what this university life is all about.apart from taking courses how much we learn being in the university that is emmense. The people we meet, the talks we have with the peer group is something that is learnt outside of the classes. The gruelling discussion with the professor for a problem or be it learning playing racketball in CRC,everything has some kind of a teaching element attached to it and thats why i would say learning why you are here and what you want to do for the rest of your life and finding a true love in something you do is the essense of coming to the university in america and i have just begun on finding my true love,my happiness ,my desires.......

Lets wait for the next posting to see what happens next in the coming semesters ...

Cheers

Lets start by the Introduction......

I am Kunal Jain and i am currently pursuing my Masters in Telecommunications from University of Maryland. The journey started way back in the year 2005 when i thought of coming to America and making a true american dream. I started by finding the list of the universities and figured out the best in can get into is the Telecommunication feild and henceforth started researching on the universities which offer this kind of a course. In the due course of finding the university University of Maryland came out to be the best one and when I got an admit from it I accepted that happily.

The journey of going to america started after that and posting on the forums for possible people going from the Delhi to the same university started. In the due course i didnt knew i am about to find a person who is going to be my friend for all the life long but as said correctly what is there in the destiny has to happen and i found my buddy,my brother Ajay who was also a Maryland aspirant like me. We both decided to stay together in america and became good friends instantly.

The day of 12th august came and me and Ajay started for our excursion to America on that day, amdist all the circumstances and going away from the family there was one thing which kept me going was my desire to become something and show the world. With that expectation we landed on IAD,but god had something else for me and my struggle has just now begun.

To my wonder my baggage didnt come and me and Ajay kept standing stariing at each other what has to be done, and after asking many people we filled out the lost bagagge form and came out of the airport where are pickups were waiting. All through this i was only wondering where am I and if i am lost somewhere or in middle of some dream. Nothing was coming to my mind but that was the way America welcomed me with no clothes whatsoever.

Days started passing and we both got our first on campus jobs and found an apartment in one the communities with Anoop as our third room mate. He was the one from my college but was my senior in my undergrad. Things started moving again and we started the registering of the courses, now came the real deilemma, The course was not something we had imagined in our minds, the classes were supposed to happen in the evenings which was not we had thought, secondly the course structure was something we hadnt imagined.

But talking to seniors and then deciding we decided to keep the semester light with one technical course and two management courses, which was against my liking but i took that because i figured that was something i had to go with.

lets wait for the next posting and we will discuss about the courses offered and our studying....till then bbyeee....
