Where is Your mind in Business Ecosystem

HI,

Today I thought I should blog about something which happens inside our minds when we get introduced to the business world and here are some of my findings --

Do you respect and grow the talent of your peers, or do you leverage it so you can shine?

-Do you have transparency with your vendors, or do you try to squeeze every drop of value from them until they move on and you find someone else?

-Do you feel good or bad when you’ve clearly exploited someone’s position to your benefit?

-Do you weaken or strengthen the power of the people around you?

-Do you still maintain relationships where you benefit much more than you contribute?

These are but a few questions that define whether or not you can play a more significant role in the global business ecosystem you participate in. As the world becomes more connected and thus transparent, the rules that apply to biological ecosystem apply here as well.

The big difference though is that in nature, parasitic, symbiotic and dynamic relationships are played by the same players without the possibility of moving up or down the change (apart from evolution over time). With people in business, the evolutionary cycles are faster and more immediate than ever, and growth is dependent on the ability to adopt to new mind shifts from “small timer” to major player.

The real question then is about your mentality. I’d written earlier about Landlord vs Trader mentality, but this is far more fundamental. It’s about nobility. The best definition of nobility I’ve hear to date is:

Nobility is not about how much better you are than someone else, but rather, how much better are you than your former self.

So now, truthfully ask yourself:

Are you just a bottom feeder, a leach, a coattail rider, a predator, or can you shift your mentality to be an integral part of the business ecosystem you play in? Your survivability in the bold new world might just depend on it

I hope that makes clear where we stand in this mind chakra

Thanks

Does your Idea Still Counts...

We live in the age of ideas. It's ideas that make jeans worth $300 and water no longer available for free. The idea to brand relationships are fairly obvious. If not to all of us, at least to savvy marketers who use them to their advantage everyday.
Obviously, some ideas have a longer shelf life than others. The question is, do you know when yours is expiring?

-Ever since Google was up for IPO, everyone and their cousin tried their hand in the search game. From A9 to Chacha, cool technologies sit by the curb like the homeless begging for visitors to elevate them to "The Next Google". Do you really think that's going to happen, or did the destination site boat already sail?

-Wired recently had a post about the lamest social networks. Do I need to elaborate further about starting your own? Is it really about yet another community, or offering value wherever people may be connecting to each other?

-Even investing in The Internet as is might prove dangerous with increasing security threats as we migrate offline infrastructure systems online. Not to mention the inherent inefficiencies of distributing bandwidth hogging content like HD video that Bittorrent and others are trying to address.

See, in the current flux, the rate of change is faster than ever before. The moving parts intersecting cultural vibe, technical possibilities and the current geopolitical influence is exactly that: MOVING!

If you don't understand what moves and when, your brilliant idea might easily become the black hole of organizational and personal energy suck because the premise under which your idea originally bloomed no longer exists!

I hope your implement your idea as soon as possible.

Best of Luck

Creating great products

Hi Everyone,

Today I saw this video and was thinking what goes in making of so creative and great products in this world. Well the answer is the creative thinking and an ability to Market the product to the world and convince them yes our product is the best. And apple has come a long way in proving this methadology to the whole world.

Again its all about pursuing a passion which Steve Jobs had when he started Apple, and till date his products are masterpeices and have a great fan following.

watch this video and tell me what you think what differentiates Steve Jobs with a budding entrepreneur like us.

Once you find an answer I say half the battle would be won.Rest of it we will win together.

Business Plan for our Startup BOOM...

Hello Everyone,

I got a great response from you people regarding what the poll is all about, though there were less votes but people were asking me what is this all about. Now after that I thought of putting together my Buisness Plan as promised last week and here is something I have got for you guys to check out.

Our startup is named boom!!!! Search, discuss, socialize and say boom!!!!!!!

Our work is based on designing an application based on advanced web services which would serve as an aggregator for all the discussion forums that exist on the entire web.

Isn’t that innovative, but the name of the game is to get revenues and make profits. Our entire Business model is based on getting advertisements which wouldn’t be any random advertisement but advertisements which are localized to the user or in other words we plan to do location based marketing pertaining to the discussions that Is happening in that time. We plan to associate ourselves with Amazon, Google and utilize Google local and other related service providers to generate revenue stream for our application.

I hope you guys like an idea..please post your comments about what all features you would like to see in this new social networking and we will try to include them for you.

Thanks

Visual and Creative Thinking:What We Learned From Peter Pan and Willy Wonka

HI Friends,

I just now got back from Harrisburg Pennsylvania after spending some time of my spring break there. I must tell you I visited the Hersheys Chocalate factory and was quite amazed by the creativity they use in making chocalates. I must say a virtual tour through the factory was awesome and they used a great sense of imagination in designing that tour.

All throughout my driving back to College Park,i was thinking how people think so differently and in a creative manner which creates so amazing things in this world and as a result I found these great slides about exposing the innerself of your mind and getting creative.

Read them through and by the end you will definately feel a creative thought coming to your mind as happened with me :) which I will discuss in the next session.

Thanks and happy reading

Ciao

Courses in Spring 2007 and my struggle starts

HI,

Sorry for the delay in this posting but i was bit busy with some stuff these days. So spring 2007 has already started and i came back from India and was getting used to American life once again. It hurted a lot to come back from India but yaa this was the year in which I had to do something and prove myself. I started with my courses, the courses were CMSC 711, ENTS 625 and ENTS 641. I would say among them the course and the Professor who had maximum impact on my life was CMSC 711 and the professor was Neil Spring. The course was Advanced Computer Networks and was an amazing resrach oriented course in networks. I liked the way the things were tought in the class and the class introduced me to many new things like working in Unix and programming in unix and then the research papers we went through were simply amazing. The professor was too much lively and it never seemed I am attending a class,it was like a cool and an intellectual discsussion taking place. I enjoyed it whole heartedly and after that the research project we had to work on was one of the amazing ones i have worked on,if somebody wants to access the resrach paper we did in that class can do so from my personal website www.kjain.com .

I would like to mention about the book we followed in that class and would reccomend everyone to use it if have some interest in Computer Network, it was Computer networks a systems approach by Larry Peterson, the book was basic and at the same time very good in concepts.

Next in the line was 641 which was again a networks course and a core class,i dont knw why ENTS department has created all core classes so monotonus. The professor was the one who did everyhting for himself, when he was teaching we tought as if hes teaching himself though now hes no more teaching in the ENTS department but the course in itself was all about Cisco concepts and nothing which was about general networks ,all protocols were cisco propreitery ,I would say I learn a great deal of things but not as compared to 711 and the quality of teaching.

625 was a fun course and was very nice,we enjoyed doing the course as professor was someone who was best in his feild and thats what i like most about the ENTS business courses that professors are simply amazing in the Business school, they know how to teach and deliver the teachings. The most important was reading the Boston Consulting book which is very good if you are considering a job in stretgy making.

At the same time the tension was going all thorugh the semester of finding an Internship which was a difficult thing to do and was same as finding a full time job. Though after lot of struggle and hardships i was able to secure one in Usi an AT&T company as an application and system integration engineer where i work till now and enjoy whole heartedly working on it.

My advice to people looking for internships is to look everywhere, apply extensively, dont worry about finding assistantships as finding an internship is most important as it goes a long way in securing a full time job, My job in DEloitte Consulting is an outcome of the internship only and something i discovered i enjoy doing always and would like to take as a full time career. Done loose heart if things dosent come along at this time as they will with your hard work, contact me if somebody needs help with the Interviews and psoitions they want to go for.

Thanks and best of luck to everyone..lets wait for the next posting and I will tell you my most weird experiences in the summer of 2007.

Take care and stay warm.
