I am Kunal Jain and i am currently pursuing my Masters in Telecommunications from University of Maryland. The journey started way back in the year 2005 when i thought of coming to America and making a true american dream. I started by finding the list of the universities and figured out the best in can get into is the Telecommunication feild and henceforth started researching on the universities which offer this kind of a course. In the due course of finding the university University of Maryland came out to be the best one and when I got an admit from it I accepted that happily.
The journey of going to america started after that and posting on the forums for possible people going from the Delhi to the same university started. In the due course i didnt knew i am about to find a person who is going to be my friend for all the life long but as said correctly what is there in the destiny has to happen and i found my buddy,my brother Ajay who was also a Maryland aspirant like me. We both decided to stay together in america and became good friends instantly.
The day of 12th august came and me and Ajay started for our excursion to America on that day, amdist all the circumstances and going away from the family there was one thing which kept me going was my desire to become something and show the world. With that expectation we landed on IAD,but god had something else for me and my struggle has just now begun.
To my wonder my baggage didnt come and me and Ajay kept standing stariing at each other what has to be done, and after asking many people we filled out the lost bagagge form and came out of the airport where are pickups were waiting. All through this i was only wondering where am I and if i am lost somewhere or in middle of some dream. Nothing was coming to my mind but that was the way America welcomed me with no clothes whatsoever.
Days started passing and we both got our first on campus jobs and found an apartment in one the communities with Anoop as our third room mate. He was the one from my college but was my senior in my undergrad. Things started moving again and we started the registering of the courses, now came the real deilemma, The course was not something we had imagined in our minds, the classes were supposed to happen in the evenings which was not we had thought, secondly the course structure was something we hadnt imagined.
But talking to seniors and then deciding we decided to keep the semester light with one technical course and two management courses, which was against my liking but i took that because i figured that was something i had to go with.
lets wait for the next posting and we will discuss about the courses offered and our studying....till then bbyeee....

Certainly seems like American dream is all a myth of landing up in country that has jazzy cars, high rise buildings and blond blue eyed chics but alas its a series of trials and bare minimum survival atleast for your graduate years... and all that baggage claim and going through visa lines is an experience by itself... but certainly in midst of all these you meet genuine friends who share similar and quiet unique journey to more mature individuals... and off course responsible one... But certainly I would say its a must for all those Indians who are pampered by their parents and with easy lifestyle back home ..this country teaches you self dependency... well written blog Kunal... let your experiences keep coming....
Mohita
Well I have had other experiences and feelings that you have mentioned about landing first time is US and adapting to new environment. But definitely losing the baggage must be pain in the ass.
hey this is quite interesting and involving.. bring on some more Mr Jain..
Good job!
i really found this an intersting one and i think that losing your baggage with your landing in america must have given you an hint that lyf frm nw on would no more be easy and struggle will now be part and parcel of lyf ..... bt i genuinely thnk that all ths mst have made u an independent and an adaptive person ...lets hope u share some more of ur experiences with us in future ..!!!!
